About Us
The Center for Active Living is located on 11th Street in downtown Worthington on the site of the former YMCA. After the YMCA moved into their new building on the MNWest Campus, the City of Worthington purchased the old YMCA building and tore down the original front portion; lobby, pool and locker rooms, kitchen and upper gym while leaving the main floor gym, racquetball courts, and complete lower level intact. They then began new construction, adding the new front half onto the existing portion. The new addition includes the CAL director’s office, small conference room, main community room, catering kitchen, restrooms with showers and an elevator that allows access to each level for people of all abilities. The Center for Active Living opened it’s doors in it’s current location in April 2013. Continuing the tradition of the Worthington Senior Center since the 1970’s, the renamed and expanded Center for Active Living provides programs and events for the active adults in our community aged 50+. Daily activities include: pickleball, card playing, board games, billiards, walking on the lower level track, yoga, exercise classes, technology classes, crafts, monthly birthday parties, along with evening events such as Piano & Hors D’oeuvres, potlucks, holiday parties, and more. The CAL is proud to have received a large grant in 2022 from MNRAAA to be able to purchase many items that elevate our members’ experience. With that grant money, we purchased 10 bicycles, 6 kayaks + lifejackets, 4 raised garden beds, 15 laptops and 13 iPads, a smartboard, portable projector, and a Bluetooth speaker for presentations. Along with being able to pay for exercise instructors to come in and teach classes. These purchases allowed our members to learn new skills, encourage fellowship and community interaction, and improve strength, flexibility and balance. The Center for Active Living has expanded the programs offered to include health education and screenings, social activities to combat loneliness and promote social involvement, provide and expand fitness programs, promote mental alertness and maintain positive mental health, active aging awareness, special events and day trips, and offer more volunteer opportunities within the community. There is a place for everyone at the CAL!
